Emerging Treatments in Systemic Sclerosis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease

The pipeline for Systemic Sclerosis-associated Interstitial Lung Disease (SSc-ILD) therapies is expanding, with companies like Genentech and GlaxoSmithKline developing treatments. Clinical trials show promising results for emerging medications, aiming to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Continued research and collaboration foster hope for those affected by this challenging condition.

Selexipag shows promise in treating systemic sclerosis vasculopathy, especially Raynaud's and digital ulcers. In a study, 56% of patients using Selexipag had complete healing compared to 7% with standard care. These early findings suggest a hopeful new treatment option, offering relief and improved outcomes for patients.

The study found no link between the rs2841277 SNP in the PLD4 gene and systemic sclerosis (SSc) in European Americans. This differs from previous Japanese findings, indicating genetic variations may play a role. Further studies in diverse populations are recommended to explore these genetic differences.

Researchers have discovered that citric acid is more effective than sodium thiosulfate in breaking down calcium in cases of calcinosis cutis. This promising finding from in vitro tests offers hope for a new treatment option that avoids skin irritation, which could benefit patients with systemic sclerosis.
